How big is our universe? Was this universe created or did it exist with God? If created, did God alone create it or was it after the creation of Jesus?

The Bible does not speak about the size of our universe, but it speaks to the amazing power of our God. Currently, science sets an upper limit estimate for the size of our ever-expanding universe at 28 Gigaparsecs, or an amazing 864,100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 meters (P. Bielewicz, A. J. Banday, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Volume 412, Issue 3, 11 April 2011, Pages 2104–2110). If this is correct, it would mean that a spotlight shined from earth would take over 91 billion years to reach the farthest “edge” of the universe.

Most ancient cultures believe the universe always existed and that God showed his power in organizing the chaos.  However, the Bible teaches that our universe did have a beginning. Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Additionally, the LORD, “…stretched out the heavens, laid the foundation of the earth, and formed the spirit of man within him,” Zechariah 12:1 (CSB).

Today, through studying the astronomical evidence in the heavens, the scientific community asserts the universe had a “beginning” about 14 billion years ago. They also conclude that space expanded very, very rapidly. This is a remarkable corroboration of the Zechariah scripture teaching God “stretched out” or expanded the heavens.  (see "In the Beginning God Created the Heavens" by J. Parkinson, “Beauties of the Truth,” February 2015.

We have a direct statement in the Gospel of John that the “Word,” who “became flesh” as our Jesus (John 1:14), was directly involved in every act of creating our visible universe (John 1:3,10). In Proverbs, the “Word” is described as a master builder who was by Jehovah God’s side throughout creation (Proverbs 8:22-31).  It appears reasonable that God and Hisonly begotten son” Jesus (John 3:16) along with the other subsequently created “sons of God” (Job 38:7) - the angels - created all things.

The scriptures state that God created the Earth not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited (Isaiah 14:18). And also that the earth abideth forever (Ecclesiastes 1:4). This seems to imply that the earth will be populated forever. If this be true, where will they get their supplies from, such as coal, minerals, timber, etc. when the present sources are exhausted?
